The Levelling-Up and Regeneration Act (LURA) 2023 introduced ‘neighbourhood priorities statements’. A neighbourhood priorities statement is produced by a local council, in consultation with local residents. They will be less detailed and quicker to produce than a neighbourhood plan, typically taking 6 months to produce.
Gwinear-Gwithian Parish Council has approved to publicise its intention to create a neighbourhood priorities statement (NPS) for the parish of Gwinear-Gwithian. You can view the map which identifies the area under the NPS by clicking the following link:- GG NPS Designation_NPS Designation Map
Cornwall Council formally approved the designated area on the 10th April 2025, you can view further information via the following link – https://www.cornwall.gov.uk/planning-and-building-control/neighbourhood-planning/neighbourhood-priorities-statements-pilot-in-cornwall/
A neighbourhood priorities statement will help us to influence the next Cornwall Local Plan (CLP) and help you to have a say in how growth affects our area. Most places in Cornwall will need to build new homes in the period to 2050. This is your opportunity to help us tell Cornwall Council how growth can benefit our community.
In the coming weeks, you will be able to share your thoughts via a survey on:-
- WHERE new homes should be built and the areas that should be PROTECTED from growth
- The TYPE of new homes that we need
- The DESIGN of new homes
- The COMMUNITY FACILITIES that will help our communities to thrive
- The GREEN SPACES that should be improved or protected
- How we should support our local ECONOMY and encourage JOBS
- Where CONNECTIONS could be improved to make it easier to reach key destinations
Cornwall Council will share responses for our parish with us and we’ll use your feedback to produce a Neighbourhood Priorities Statement (NPS), setting out our priorities for the future. You will have the opportunity to comment on our NPS before we submit it to Cornwall Council.
Keep an eye on our website and social media for regular updates including the survey which will be released in May/June. We will also use other means such as updates in this newsletter and local events in the community to help us reach everyone.
In the meantime if you are interested in joining our NPS steering group we would welcome members of the public to help us shape the future of our parish, please contact the council at clerk@ggpc.org.uk for more information. Alternatively if you would just like to be kept informed of information you can also email the council to go on our database for regular NPS updates.
