Arc of Attrition by UTMB Trail Running Event – January 2025

Sep 23, 2024 | Parish News

The annual sports event, Arc of Attrition by UTMB, returns to Cornwall this coming January.

They will use the South West Coast Path through this parish on Friday 24 and/or Saturday 25 January 2025.

During these dates they will be using the public right of way as part of their 100 mile, 50 mile and 25 mile routes which participants run along.

They liaise with Cornwall Council, the South West Coast Path Association, the National Trust and local venues to deliver this yearly event.

They anticipate participants will be running via the parish during these approximate timings: Saturday 3am – 8pm

To prevent congestion on the local road network they advise spectators where they can, and importantly where they can’t, attend to watch the races. They have specific venues which are designated as spectating areas due to car parking capacity and availability of access.

Wayfinding and navigation

They use temporary wayfinding to help keep their participants on the route and prevent them from taking a wrong turn. These small high-visibility flags and signs are removed after the last runner has passed to ensure the flags only remain on the path for as long as they need to.

Participants are instructed to be quiet and respectful during the night when passing residential properties, close all gates and observe the Countryside Code. During the hours of darkness participants will be wearing head torches to help them navigate and follow the path.

Community

They pride themselves in caring about the quality of the event and being empathetic to local communities. They aim to set the best example possible and keep disturbances to a minimum.

They provide volunteering opportunities to 300 people and donations from participants help raise money for the South West Coast Path Association and the Cornwall Air Ambulance.

How your parish can get involved

They invite you to support runners as they travel through the parish. They encourage locals to wave and cheer as it can make a positive and lasting impression on participants.
