It is with great sadness that we announce that Cllr Mrs Shirley Negus passed away on Friday, 5th February 2021.

Shirley joined the Parish Council in May 1999 for the Gwinear Ward, a place where she lived, grew up and raised a family.  She was so passionate about the Gwinear Ward and particularly the village of Reawla.

Shirley was part of the Reawla Park working group and helped with the recent refurbishment of the park.  She was also keen to introduce the Streetscape works for the village centre and always said once the Council had its own hall she would be done but she couldn’t leave us, something we are truly grateful for.  More than anything we will greatly miss Shirley’s calming presence at our meetings and her immense local knowledge-something we cannot replace, not to mention her dry sense of humour!

Shirley was also a founder member of the Gwinear Villages Association (GVA).  The GVA was formed in 1976 and up until the recent Covid crisis published a monthly newsletter which was distributed free of charge through the villages of Carnhell Green, Wall, Gwinear and Reawla for the community.  The newsletter went to every home and local business in this area and included updates from local organisations, activities for residents as well as promoting local business.  The GVA also held Coffee mornings, a summer fete and Cream Tea afternoons throughout the year, as well as an annual “seniors” outing.

It is hard to comprehend the loss Shirley’s passing will have on the Parish Council, GVA and community and we extend our deepest sympathies to Shirley’s family at this difficult time.
