Speed Management Project
Speeding vehicles is the top issue raised by parishioners in the parish next to planning matters.
The Parish Council (PC) is keen to provide the community with vehicle activated speed radar (VASR) signs which remind road users what speed they should be doing within our rural villages.
We aim to provide a number of VASR throughout the parish in key locations, prioritising the areas where speeding is either a perceived issue or a proven issue.
The VASR can be permanently fixed in one location or can be moved from village to village.
In the past we have had to wait for the Cornwall Council countywide VASR to be available to test the speeds in our villages but we hope by purchasing our own they will help reduce speed but also provide real time data which will prove whether there is a speeding issue or not. This could be valuable in raising the issue with Cornwall Council who are the Highway Authority and could lead to extra safety measures being implemented where trouble spots are highlighted. The Parish Council has already secured a grant of £5000 towards this scheme from the Community Network Panel and the PC has set aside a further £8000 towards the scheme.
The PC will need volunteers to help with the scheme which it hopes to roll out in 21/22 but it must work with the Highway Authority on this project as it will need to gain permission to create the project on the public highway from Cornwall Council.
If you are interested in volunteering for this scheme please contact the Parish Clerk.
